Development at the heart of Flux Partners

At Flux Partners, we place great importance on development. We do not limit ourselves to supporting the development of our clients; we also focus strongly on the development of our employees. The Flux Academy plays a central role in this. It is our key to stimulating both personal and professional growth. In collaboration with the different parts of our organization, we ensure that our consultants continue to grow not only in their professional skills, but also as individuals.

Tailor-made development goals

The Flux Academy aims to develop all Flux Partners employees across three levels: professional competence, conscious competence, and role competence. Rob Tönissen, Managing Consultant and coach at Flux Partners, explains:
“Professional competence is about developing the right knowledge and skills to perform your job optimally. Conscious competence means becoming increasingly aware of your own strengths and using them deliberately. Role competence ensures that you not only master the content, but also truly grow into your role as a consultant and ambassador of Flux.”

Experiential learning at the core

Rob continues:
“In collaboration with the various parts of the organization, we formulate concrete goals for all different role profiles within Flux Partners, based on these three pillars. Employees can work on these goals through training, but also by applying specific skills in practice with the support of experienced colleagues. At Flux, we believe that learning by doing is the most effective approach. That is why we apply the 70-20-10 principle. One of its core assumptions is that 70% of learning takes place through conscious development in practice. This is why we actively involve our employees in challenging projects, such as the Zomerlust quay walls tender.”

Social learning: growing together with colleagues

The second component of the 70-20-10 principle is social learning. During Flux Fridays, we come together at the office to share knowledge, discuss challenges, and inspire one another.
“It’s a safe environment where you learn not only from successes, but also when things don’t go as planned,” says Rob. “Colleagues present their projects and share insights, which often leads to valuable new ideas. Flux Fridays also provide space for guest speakers and other learning events. These sessions not only strengthen team dynamics, but also expand the collective knowledge within Flux Partners.”

Formal learning: strengthening the foundation

Formal learning is the third element of the 70-20-10 principle at Flux Partners. Although this component represents only 10% of the learning journey, it is a crucial first step. This includes training sessions, workshops, and courses.
“We have already developed several internal training programs to support employee development,” Rob explains. “What I find important is that we encourage employees to immediately apply what they learn in practice. This approach helps knowledge stick and motivates employees to continuously reflect and develop themselves.”

The strength of collaboration across the organization

Collaboration with the various parts of our organization is a key element of the Flux Academy. This collaboration ensures that development goals align not only with individual employee needs, but also with the strategic objectives of the organization. Rob explains:
“The different parts of the organization contribute valuable practical knowledge and specific development needs. This enables us to design programs that not only challenge employees, but also directly enhance the quality of our services.”

A good example of this is the collaboration surrounding the future role of AI in project management and tender management.
“We are exploring how AI can contribute to our services,” Rob says. “We do this through a company-wide working group that examines if and how we want to apply AI to optimize work processes. In this way, we combine experiential learning with innovation and bring together the different parts of the organization, practice, and development.”

Development that drives success

The Flux Academy is more than a training program; it is a way to inspire and empower employees to grow. The Flux Academy provides tools, guidance, and the right environment to bring out the best in yourself—whether that involves personal goals, such as presenting confidently to a group, or professional challenges, such as managing complex projects.
Rob concludes:
“I am happiest when I see people in motion and growing in their roles. At Flux Partners, we work together to ensure that everyone can continue to develop within the organization, both personally and professionally. Because when you grow, we all grow.”
