Focus on learning during traineeship
Getting off to a flying start in your field, exploring different roles, and at the same time working purposefully on your development. That is exactly what the traineeship at Flux Partners stands for. Sebastian Walrabenstein has been part of Flux’s first group of trainees since February 2025. He shares how he develops through knowledge sessions, modules, and working on various projects.
First steps as a trainee
“My first day immediately felt right,” Sebastian begins. “A buddy was waiting for me, I was given a tour of the office, and I met my colleagues. In the first few weeks, I was given time to get to know the organization through SharePoint and introductions from the different practice groups. After that, things moved quite quickly: I was assigned to a project within tender management and was able to start contributing straight away.”
Within the traineeship, Sebastian and his fellow trainees rotate to a new practice group every 34 weeks, allowing them to gain experience in three different departments over the course of two years. “That’s incredibly valuable, because you learn a lot in a short amount of time and can discover which field really suits you.”
Gaining hands-on experience
“I was involved in the tender process from the very beginning,” Sebastian continues enthusiastically. “That meant I was part of all phases of the project: from analyzing the client’s request to drafting the content. Together with the client, we determined which topics should be included in the tender and how we could best formulate them.”
“Because it was a short project, I was able to experience everything from start to finish. An additional advantage of working on shorter projects is that you get a clear picture of this type of work. Within the 34 weeks, you’re involved in multiple processes, which gives you a well-rounded understanding of the work within that specific practice group.”
Applying knowledge immediately
Part of the traineeship is that Flux Partners offers training sessions that directly align with the trainees’ day-to-day work. For example, Sebastian followed modules on analysis and writing. “The analysis training helps you clearly identify the exact question a client is asking. During the writing session, I learned how to develop a strong plan within a tender process—such as writing a cost management plan or formulating a vision for collaboration. Because I was right in the middle of the tender phase of the project, I could apply these insights immediately.”
The training sessions take place on Friday afternoons and consist of a mix of theory and practical exercises. “We apply what we learn straight away to case studies. That makes it not only educational, but also fun.”
Growing as a professional
Sebastian has already noticed significant progress since starting his traineeship. “I’ve become better at structuring and facilitating sessions with clients. I now know better how to prepare, which questions to ask, and which methods to use. In addition, I’m learning a lot about writing tenders.”
An important part of his development is the safe learning environment that Flux provides and also expects from its clients. “I was warmly welcomed by the client right away. I was honest about being new and still having a lot to learn. That openness was appreciated. It motivates me to keep asking questions and to be proactive.”
Colleague involvement
What Sebastian particularly values is the openness and willingness of colleagues to help. “Whether someone is directly involved in your project or not, everyone takes the time to help you get started. On Fridays, we’re all in the office, and there’s a real sense of togetherness.”
With its combination of hands-on experience, targeted training, and a supportive environment, the Flux Partners traineeship offers a strong foundation for both personal and professional growth. As Sebastian puts it himself: “You learn by doing here—and that makes all the difference.”
